The book club is back!
Some things change and some stay the same
Long time, no see! And on a new platform no less! We’re trying out Substack instead of the old newsletter and website, so please don’t put me in the spam. The book club is getting ready to book club again on the 11th of January, so I thought I'd pop into your mailbox to tell you all the details for the upcoming year.
There will be some changes to the book club compared to previous years. For starters, we are going to strictly cap the amount of people who can join at 20. This is partly to keep the conversation doable, but also because we have a new location!
Instead of busy bars and loud music, I'm trying out renting a venue for the book club so we have all the peace and quiet we need. We found a good match with Studio Tideland in Rotterdam West that is easily accessible with public transportation. Our new address will be at the Opzoomerstraat so you can already take a look at your possible commute.
Another change is that for now we will have to Bring Your (Our) Own Booze. There will be coffee, tea and water for free, but anything else you should bring yourself. I will bring some snacks and something extra to drink, but definitely bring whatever you'd like and if you are willing and able to share that could be great!
What will not change is that the book club will remain free. It was important to me from the start that anyone can join, so I won't be charging admission. I will ask for donations to help cover the cost of rent, but none of that is mandatory.
And finally, I'd love for the book club to become a more communal thing, so if you have ideas for drinks, snacks, books to read, things to do or want to get involved in any way, please let me know! A book club without members really is just a person reading, so doing this thing together sounds great!

OK, but what book are we reading though?
I did a poll on Instagram to ask what you all wanted to read next and it was a tie between literary fiction and weird shit so I decided to go for Literature but make it Weird. I picked two novels that seem weird and interesting, but are definitely on the literary end of things.
Take a look books here and vote below for your favorite. There is no IRL vote this time, so the online winner takes it all! I’ll announce the winner in the next newsletter with all the details about the book club.
